Best URL for SEO on my Last Name?

Okay, this is silly, but I would love to come up as the highest hit for my surname.

Specifically I want to come up as the number one link for the google search "[Last Name]". (I already come up as the number one link for "[First Name] [Last Name]"). The current number one is the owner of a domain [Last Name].org.

My question is, I am considering buying a domain. Would it make more sense for me to go after [First Name]-[Last Name].com, or would it be better to go after a more obscure suffix, with just the last name, such as [Last Name].us or [Last Name].me? Which would google like better?

As an aside - my linked in page was pretty high in the search results. But then I found a forum that I have 500 or so posts in over the years, and added a link to my profile with the anchor text [Last Name]. Yeah, I got black listed. I've since got my linked in profile re-index and un-black listed, but my page rank is considerably less.

Take the last name, mate and you can always use a subdomain not only for your own first name, but for the first names of your children and children's children )))

    That's a good idea.

So as far as you know, google does not put extra importance on any suffixes (like .com is better than .us, for example)?

Sure, .com, .net & .org would probably SERP better than .biz, .info, .me, .name & .us,
but it would only be an issue if the content were similar or the same.

I have different experience. Myself and my gang rank well above the .com's
very often. I do not believe that SEs discriminate based on Top Level Domain
    (TLD).

Otoh, maybe we have more links. :D

are you saying your linked in profile was deindexed because you linked to it? I don't believe that.

The easiest way to push yourself up is to buy some links here on this forum for your linked in profile. Your profile is on a very trusted website and that's the easiest way to push something up on google. Starting with a new domain will be much harder, google will need time to get trust in your domain.

I am 99% certain that this is what happened. I found a forum that I had posted in previously (I had 400+ posts). I added a link to my signature and it showed up in all 400+ posts. I could no longer bring my linked in page up in google. I later removed the link in the forum and requested google to unban my site. A few weeks later it showed up again.

What was the reason, in your opinion, - the instant appearing of hundreds of links or too many links with same anchor?
