Links from articles with proper anchor text is the best option. You should do some bookmarking for that article too.

 

I don't think there is a best type of backlink as it wholly depends on your site's niche. Here is a list of my personal favourites;

I agree with that forum posting is the best. There is a possible that back link can be removed due to service unavailable or your account has been banned from directory or social bookmarking, etc. In forum if you are not spamming you will get good backlink from here. Forum is the easy way of backlinking than others

i agree, the best of backlink (one way backlink) is article marketing. so effective and targeted

 

I have seen my website go up with adding bookmarks, commenting on socail forums.I definetly agree that link from a high PR site will be of higher value,but at the same time it is hard to get.
