Best traffic sources for online dating site?

Hi,

I would like to promote my dating site and I wonder which niches or traffic sources would work best?

I'm considering both free and paid ads, but Google Adwords looks too expensive for me..

Also I have a doubt about porn sites, as my website is about traditional dating (i.e. non-adult) and I believe it would result in low conversion rate or users would upload inappropriate pictures..

I would appreciate any advice or suggestions.

Thanks for this idea but I have already tried this. I have created accounts on major love/relationshop forums and have helped other members by giving advises and recommendations how to deal with their specific situations.
It all went just fine until I tried to post links to my website or just mention its domain name in the text.. Moderators on dating forums are very picky on such things and react immediately

Regarding blogging - do you mean to start up a dating/love/relationship blog, and to hire a writer to copyright articles?
From my experience, writing a good article cost about $50 or even more (in order to make sure that it will read fine to native speakers).
So 20 articles will be around $1000.
Do you think this will work better then Adwords bids of $1-2 per click?

Regarding emails. Do you mean to buy an email database and send out a mailing campaign? As far as I understand this is spam and there is a risk to have issues with my hosting company.. Am I wrong?

 

Try POF - Plenty Of Fish. You can set very targeted campaigns, I made great sales there.

For online data sites I have had alot of success from posting the sites at promotion forums such as www.forumhour.com

 

There are so many dating sites out there and many people try to start new ones, however lots of people only trust the old ones that have been around forever, so how do you build trust and get them to try you out is the biggest question. You can get eyeballs on your ads but if they don't know like or trust you, you are doomed... so what to do...what to do...
Here is what I would do...
I would run a facebook contest with a physical give away or a digital giveaway. You could give them top prize, 6 months membership to your site and a copy or how to win in relationships using these 5 easy steps... you know an ebook or some other offer with good advice, you could have a fun tshirt for a giveaway that said something like, single and loving life, or single and on the hunt... or whatever. You could check sunfrog and get a shirt there for the winner in your contest and then send everyone else a link to get 1/2 off your membership for 3 months if they give it a try since they did not win your contest. During this time if you use the right software for your contest, you will be building a list and can market to them all about your site, but you must give them good content first.

Trying to immediately make money off of a brand new list is the absolute worst thing you can do. You might as well have not built the list in the first place. Plenty of fish ads goes for cheap, give it a shot. Also try Facebook ads but make sure you do it targeted. General won't work and cost money for nothing.
Adult sites can work but you have to be "clever" in ways of doing it.

I got several dating sites and i still use porn to drive traffic to them and YES it converts. Not as good as maintream traffic but there's money to be made with this kind of traffic.
Just make sure you use a sexy girl picture that IS available at your dating site. Guys will go for it. They will at least check it out. Ok they are looking for porn but if they fall in love with a pic, who knows what could happen lol

 

Why not you opt for Facebook Sponsored Advertising. Just promote it on Facebook and receive huge traffic and users as well.

 

Video sharing and social media will give you best traffic.

 

All of the above suggestions I agree with, and I myself was going to say there's nothing better than advertising on social media sites for a dating network. However, you have to give them something they don't already have for free.

 

I'll suggest you something. I'm not sure if you heard for it, but there is a nice tool called SEOSpyglass. With it, you can practically scan your competitors backlinks. So you'll definitely find about some traffic sources that you might want to explore in the future.
