    Good post. I've been doing a lot of forum/blog posting with my link in signature or implanted in the text somewhere. Of course using proper anchor text on this that I want to rank high for. This method is tried and true, takes some time and effort, but after a month or so I can see my site crawling to the top! Article writing is good to and often overlooked, but if you have good content and can write articles and submit them for free, thats free links if the articles are picked up by google or what not and people look at them and follow the links. I'd recommend putting your site in as a 3rd party reference, however.
