Best Tool To Create A Spec for a New Database?

    Hi,

I'm in the process of writing a spec for a database to support a website I am creating.

Is there a preferred visual format tool that most people use to show how the tables and relationships are set up?

The database designer is working in Visio, but will not be doing the database creation and admin. I'm looking for a tool or format that doesn't necessitate myself or anyone else working on the database to buy a copy of Visio.

    The database will be mysql.

Any help on this, or general tips would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

As an aside, like most of the MS Office Suite there is a free viewer for Visio so others could look at the file and not have to have purchased visio (obviously editing does require purchase)
