Alright, so say you have a website based on a UPCOMING movie that has not been released yet. Your website is getting lots of traffic daily, because the movie is going to be huge. Would it be wiser to sell this movie website prior to its release (maybe 1 week before) or AFTER the movie has been released?
It won't really make a difference, as the website traffic will need to be consistant as well as consistant revenue over period of months. A quick flutter of traffic is useless.
If your prediction of a 'quick flutter' of traffic is correct then surely it would best to sell it afterwards. I have had similar websites and found it is best to monetise the biggest days and then sell. If you can make 10x maybe 100x your pre-release traffic in a couple of days then surely it is best to take this as many potential buyers will be looking at the long term.
It is the matter of time. I think, 13-30 days prior of a movie launch is the time to sell this website.
Well, I'm thinking that most of the hype would fall down after the movie has been released, therefore, decreasing traffic.
The question is, are you making any money with that site now and how are you doing it? Nobody wants a site that makes no money.
I would list it for sale and still try to make money with it. If the right price comes along take it.
