I have been trying to figure it out how to optimize website in local SERP in Google Places results but its failed and didnt find what factors effecting it , we have tried so many things like including keywords in places listing but it doesnt work well. If you guys have and information or know how to perform well share it here.
Linkbuilding helps, make sure you filled out all content possible for your listing, verified and are authorized by Google. Add a lot of images(make sure they are keyword tagged/optimized) to your Google places profile, this can help associate you with specific Google images results as well.
Go and submit your website with on website of local listing, going to help you a lot in getting your website registered with on a local search engine....
