I like to think that swimming is most beneficial. It's a full body workout, where you use every single muscle, are required to breath slowly and evenly, and can do both the "sprint" type of swimming, and endurance swimming. Combine that with some good stretching (yoga, for example), and you've got yourself an extremely healthy work out routine. Of course swimming isn't the same as lifting, and it won't do the same for your figure, but in terms of "making those muscles work", I don't think you can beat it.
