Best solution for duplicate content

    Hello.

I have a website that shows several articles on a particular topic. For each item I have a page where visitors can read its content, showing, of course, the original source and links to that page.
I am aware that some sites will not agree and those pages will disappear. But what to do with the other? Google sees pages as duplicate content.

What is the best solution in my case? Canonical meta tag or to block further access for boths in those pages?

Any feedback helps me. Thanks! :)

Don't take my word for it, but most graphics and links pinned on Pinterest can be considered duplicate content and yet sometimes are better ranked than the original sources.

But again, this is a personal comment based on your concern, not an advice because sincerely I don't know how would I handle this if I were in your shoes.

Remember that 20 to 25% of the content in the web is duplicate and Google will not trust your site as a source of information to the users.

You are pretty much weaking your site, and at the same time giving more juice to the
site you are linking back too. You need to turn that table around, as you want to be
the source, and you want others to link back to you. Even if you write unique content,
then link back to them as the source, you will get better results, but you are still
giving away your juice, because you are still saying, "I am not the source...." dont get me wrong,
google does want you to link to other sites, make sure you link for the right reasons....

and I would delete any duplicate content....

    Thank you all for answers.

My website is an aggregator. I wonder, how can I solve the problem and be seen better for Google and other search engines?
At this point I do not have original content. Until then, I must find best solution for duplicated content.

    Thanks!

Sorry to say, this is not the 90's any more....
Those days of pumpimg out tons of content for star power
are long gone. Google has caught up to the times, and is still
    catching up all the time....

I know what you are saying...

    You have duplicate content...
You want google to give you better rankings
for aggregating content that came from the source....

If you continue to pump out duplicate content, then you will
continue to slide in the SE's. There is no magic pill you can take
so you can cheat the system that google has in place....

I am sure others with more exp can jump in, but google has
seriously cracked down on content sites. One would think that
a site like yours would be ok, but google does not see it that
way anymore, google loves the source, dislikes everyone else....
and you fall within the "everyone else" category....

I understand you perfectly and I thank you very much for your answer.

Would be in my case a good solution to not let the robots to visit those pages, or better say the source in canonical tag?

your site need to add value, provide own content, and you need to reduce on content taken from other people website.
There is no shortcut to this, and google is slamming a lots of aggregator like website. This including ebay and amazon promo pages that pull content from amazon product description and testimonials. Google only want the original, and they are near no tolerant in that.

I used to be an amazon affiliate, and number #1 issues in my opinion are affiliates that pretty much
import amazon content, and once their grace period is over, their site(s) get hit by google. It takes
time for google to come around, revaluate, come around, revaluate, but sooner or later google
will catch up to your misdeeds, and when you think everything cool, then one day you log
into your site(s) and find out your traffic has declined by 99.9%. now that they have damaged
their site, then work another 40 hours week trying to do better, well, damage already done.
bottom line: affiliate gives up, and site(s) start going offline.

If you think about it, amazon does not pay all that great, so affiliates
do very bare min in order to get their sites up, even using duplicate content,
and probably doing other things that could damage their sites as well.
since googles advancements; google is not tolerate anymore...

Unfortunately, this is political. Google vs Amazon case has been proceeding for so many years and google is blaming amazon for stealing is traffic. Off-course, google is fighting back and killing the amazon affiliates and try to trim their network by thousand. The reason given is easy, spam, scraping, doorway, junk, gibberish etc. And 90% of affiliate sites from amazon and ebay are already gone.

i have read a complaint from a segway website that publish information, photo and videos on segway model, and some personal touch in it. Yes, it link to Amazon sale page. There is basically nothing wrong and webmaster can publish this type of info without any harm to the WWW. Making money from affiliate is revenue source to keep the site moving and growing. But google step in and get it penalized.

Imagine you are amazon and you have your products and people to spread the sales force, and one day google step in and spanked all affiliates that works for you. That hurt the core business a lot. This will continue to the end of the day, until amazon wake up and dare to bring google to court and settle this with law!
