    I would like to establis a social bookmarking site, let's say something in the line of digg.com or propeller.com and run this on a domain of my own.

    What would be the ideal software to do this (something on a php/asp basis).
    The site should basically do the following:
    * User Login
    * Assign user it's own page with features like personal details, comments a report on his activities etc.
    * submission of sites and pages.
    * "Liking" pages submitted by others.
    * Adding comment function on submissions of others.

    Highly recommend Pligg (http://www.pligg.com/). It offers everything you need and have mentioned, and in the future if there's new features you want to add you can always program them yourself in PHP or hire a developer to make it. The system is extremely easy to create templates with and moderate users/submissions, plus marketing is a snap!

    Check out an example of it in my sig (Blogger Den).

    Is there any server requirements for this? Or bugs that are nasty to remove?

    What about http://www.kubelabs.com/phpdug/
