    The best free conversion software that i've seen is WinFF and KoyoteSoft's Free Video Converter.

    WinFF can't convert to .flv though.

    hey, it depends on how do you define "the best".
    I also use Sothink products, sothink free video converter. It works well to convert .avi/.wmv files to .flv files and also convert back if you like. It's free, you could have a try first.
