Best smaller search engines?

    What would you say are the 3-5 best smaller search engines to submit site urls to (other than specialty directories)? It seems everything I find says it's powered by Google or Yahoo. Which are truly independent?

    I think jayde.com is good, as well as look smart and Dogpile. I like Dogpile most actualy.
