Depends on what you need the traffic for. If you don't care what the source is, then as the other have said, social booking sites are fine, so is facebook, twitter etc... But if you need QUALITY traffic, traffic that would be interested in the content of your site, traffic that might click on your AdSense ads, the best source is organice traffic from the Search Engines.

The only way to get traffic directly from Google is to use AdWords (and this can be very expensive), there is no way to pay to get high Search Engine rankings. The only way to get quality organic traffic is to do some SEO. However, SEO takes time and I a lot of hard work. If you havn't got the time or patience, then you have no option but to pay for it.

The best sites to get traffic are by far FB, Twitter and social bookmarking sites. You still shouldn't discount Google so GoArticles and ArticleBase are good.

More importantly you need to develop a solid method of how you work and document everything to monitor your process. I have a relatively new site (2Months) and it's gained a PR of 2 very quickly. Once you start to see success you will want to go back to your blueprints and build more or sell the blueprints.

For me Twitter is definitely the best source of traffic.
Well, i want to mention for the newbies that twitter still have good conversion. The trick lies upon your followers. You should know the interest of your followers before you promote anything on twitter. Imagine, if you sell 'PR 7 backlinks' to a doctor. Do you think he'll buy your service?? So, analyze your followers before you promote anything.
