Google site map creator is working good for all my sites. I recommend it. May be it's worth using some plug-in for WP that automatically updates when you add something.
I switched from using Windows to using Linux on my main PC this past July. As a result, I no longer run GSiteCrawler, which was the best Windows-based, Google sitemap generator software I ever used. It will run right on your Windows PC, and it is fast and trouble-free, If you're a Windows user, I recommend that you download it, install it on your Windows computer, and use it. It does a great job.
I am new to sitemaps. If I have a sitemap xml created and uloaded to the root, shall I submit it to search engine such as google, yahoo, etc. or those search engine will crawl it by itself?
If your site is visited by the main search engines regularly (check your stats), my preference would always be to let them find it naturally. If not, put a link to your site from another of your more popular sites.
xmlsitemap doesn't have the option of creating 6 types of sitemaps for google, while Sitemap Writer Pro creates 6 stypes of sytemaps with 6 million URLs. So please don't bother!

What they are saying is that use an XML sitemap (I also use a TXT and HTML sitemap as well as a RSS file), and then get Google to visit your site. How to get Google to visit? If you have other websites, put a one way link to the site you want visited. I normally simply put a link with the footer navigation. If you don't have any other sites, write an article with a link back; add your site to your signature on forum posts; make a post to blog (doesn't matter about "nofollow" in this case. You just want G to follow the link to your site. It make take days, or weeks, but letting the search engines and G find your site naturally is the safest way to go. Good luck! VSC
