In your opinion what is the best shopping cart? Have you used it? What was your experience with it?

    Thanks :D

Paypal lets you easily create your own shopping cart using their payment gateway.

For anyone that has used the Paypal Shopping Cart, what has been your experience?

    Is it customizable?

Does it allow for upsells? ie, if someone adds a certain product, that X more similar products are offered?

    Is it free?

What type of programmer is needed to install and maintain?

I plan on using Paypal as my processor so if there is a system designed by Paypal that is easy and powerful, sounds good to me...

Paypal's have a free and paid payment processor, the free one lets you create the basket on your own site but to pay they are redirected to paypal. The payment one has more functionality and is more hidden to the user. You only need to know html to use the free one.

We are using Avactis shopping cart for our projects. It's a good shopping cart. But there is no best shopping cart, the same as the best car...

    Hi Brennan,

It really depends what you want to do and what access you have to server hardware and what your skill level is. If you have full access to your server and can install programs on it and set all the appropriate variables, then you could go with an open source e-commerce solution there’s plenty of it out there. The PayPal shopping cart for its buy now buttons is very limited in functionality but is ok if you have only a few products and not many requirements.

As long as you are familiar with HTML coding you will be able to integrate it in your website.

If you have say up to 10,000 products, I’d like suggest ShopFactory as best shopping cart solution to you.

Unlike most other solutions you can create the shop on your own computer at your own speed, don’t need to know anything about HTML coding or setting up software on your server. Just create the shop on your computer, upload the pages and start selling.

Now I should say that I have been involved in the development of ShopFactory since 1995 – so I am somewhat partial to it.

But the thing to keep in mind is that you should look at your requirements first – then at the solution. If you have 100,000 products, then you must have a server-side database driven e-commerce solution.

Then of course you should consider if you want to pay a monthly fee to a service provider or pay only once for the software, as is the case with SF.
And if you do Adwords, as your byline suggests, then it might be of interest that ShopFactory allows you to track purchases via Adwords when combined with GlobeCharge, so you can easily find out how much money a campaign has actually made you.

    Hope this helps,
    :)

Here goes another vote for Avactis. Forget the current distribution of OSCommerce but you might want to keep an eye open for version 3 coming up. Also, a hot-runner in the field is Magento due to be production ready early 2008.

    Hope that helps! :)

I think you should have a look at IXXO Cart ( ixxocart.com).It´s a powerful system and integrates into the Joomla content management system and also comes as standalone-version.
