Oscommerce is one of the best free carts available around. Use the stable version.

You are looking cart for digital product downloads or selling physical items?

Magento looks good, but currently doesn't support digital downloads. I read it should be available before the year ends.

    Does oscommerce offer that feature?

Have been doing a bit of research on the subject for the past few weeks and from what I have read Magento seems one of the best software carts in that its very SEO friendly and has good options in the backend. The downside to the software is that its new, so doesn't yet have all the features of some of the other more established carts and many people have said that you need to have your own server to run it or it is slow. The other option that im looking at is zen cart, which you can get a plugin for to make it SEO friendly. Its supposedly simple to use and easier to modify the template.
    This may help also

My vote is for oscommerce. Its secure, opensource and you can find developers who can create custom template for best price

Yes, magento does seem to have the most capabilities. I have downloaded it and it is much bigger then the other scripts. Could it be because it uses icube?
