Not sure why you have Zencart without a checkmark for the SSL security since you can definetly use SSL with zencart as well...
And most the other things you don`t have a checkmark or a star are available with ad-ons for zencart

Thanks for catching that! We are in the process of contacting the cart developers to get the best possible data for the chart. We should have the data corrected shortly.

Don't do what i done and waste a year of your life trying to build anything in Dreamweaver - and then go on to learn Zencart is just as troublesome! I got help in the end, there's some great packages but im not sure what would be the issues with the download aspects - I thought setting up a retail cart had it's own intricacies without then having the complication of getting people to download links that are somehow hidden? From experience once something is put up for download there's usually someone out there sneaky enough to try and jump in and grab it for free! I think security is going to be a big thing for you, good luck, need any help come say hi fellow eCommercer!

Try OpenCart, it is the easiest shopping cart application I have found and can be easily handled by a person having almost no knowledge about development/programming.

Have any of you seen Maian Cart? It's got a brand new updated version, which I haven't used, but I have used the author's previous script for Music Downloads, which looks like is a part of the full Cart solution. If you are selling media, the cart even allows previews of video or audio files. All files are kept behind your root folder, so are inaccessible without purchase.

If you are talking about only Digital Goods and Services, you should go with Zen Cart. It is well known free open source self hosted solution to manage your online store which offers downloading of digital goods right out of the box.
    Thanks

I am having an ebooks store running on osCommerce. Since I am not a techie, I outsourced the installation and some aspects in maintenance work which require PHP /MySQL knowledge. I deal only in digitally downloadable products. There are many a add-ons for different functions like SEO, Link Exchange, Product Review et.al. The latest version is quite secure now as there were problems before about security. Since it is open source, it is completely free software. There is forum for trouble shooting and there are quite nice & helpful guys out there at the forum.;)

Does anyone have any new information on uploadnsell.com and baket2go.net?

I signed up for uploadnsell.com. It worked OK for a week with one bad limitation, but it has now been down for nearly two days. Nothing new in its Twitter site since it was down in July. The problem when it was working: download links lasted only 24 hours.

I tried to replace it with basket2go.net and ran into two of the stupidest problems possible: (1) it won't accept "new registrations." One has to register in order try or buy. (2) Sending a message through its message form failed. Like 18-20 times. Each time, it says I entered the wrong Capcha characters. Do I look like I'm that bad as a typist? So I can't buy, and can't send a message asking why.

I don't know which is worse -- being just plain down or being down and pretending you're up.

I then signed up for e-junkie.com. It pretends to be simple, but it is a monstrously complex setup. I'm running into the same sorts of PHP errors I have gotten recently trying to set up OSCommerce for digital downloads. Everything seems to be set up right, but a purchase doesn't work, and like all these diddleheaded techies, they both allow PHP to send back error messages in PHP gibberish.

I've been setting up shopping carts since 1998. That's 14 years. Done many. And yet none of these tech idiots has figured out yet that error messages should be written in layman's English (or whatever language), not shorthand only they understand.

I've dealt with OSCommerce (and some of its offshoots) off and on for years. And I still ask myself why one should have to outsource an implementation. The documentation is as bad as bad gets. Yes, the forums are helpful, if you don't mind all the back-and-forth over days and days, but in business, time is money. Version control is a monstrous problem (if your OSCommerce and your PHP version don't match, you need to lose all the hours you put in and start over, for example).

As I just posted, the uploadnsell.com server went down two days ago. But the setup and the first week had me going, "Wow!" I have spent over 50 hours trying to get OSCommerce to sell digital products (it worked fine for non-digital), and failed. Started over. With uploadnsell.com, I did a live test purchase FIVE MINUTES after I started the setup. FIVE MINUTES. It's astonishing. Then, the server died a week later. But in that week, I had 100+ e-book sales.

Not always easy. If you have a longtime website host, and the host has you on an older version of PHP, and Zencart requires a new version, you can spend a long time trying without success. Been there. And I spent hours trying to figure out how to get the junk off the cart home page -- junk such as the ad for the "How to Set Up Zencart" book.

I found it to be a piece of crap, in short.

I have a firm rule when buying IT services on the web: if they don't say what their prices are, they're too expensive.

Paypro doesn't say what its prices are.

Also, the setup looks quite complicated. Multiple pricing schemes for the seller to price the product means going through a lot of yada yada yada just to sell one e-book. Most people who sell a few e-books want something that sets THE price. If I want to change prices, I will go into admin and change the price. Don't need complex software to do it for me.

And the other link you provide, to something called izzonet, is $19.95 a month for the beginner version and $39.95 a month for the "business" level. Not cheap.
