Well gary, honestly Microsoft gives a sh*t about w3c, they brew their own soup and don't rely on an outdated w3c. No browser cares about "bad syntax" error spotted by the w3c. It's about the load asp.net can handle and the codeBEHIND which handles a lot.

And yes, language has to do with making money. ASP.NET is way more commercial than the open-source php projects. You can hire a php coder on every school, it's cheap to get one. That's not the case for ASP.NET.

Don't get defensive just because we disagreed with you.

Microsoft is a W3C member and has been for a long time-- they are actively involved in developing new standards. So, yes, they do give a shit (I suppose you were trying to say "does not give a ...").

And this is the reason MSIE is almost universally hated among web authors. Fortunately, it doesn't look like this will be happening in the future: the IE group have been vocal in their efforts to work towards greater standards compliance. You're trying to defend a Microsoft that doesn't exist any more.

And what is this supposed to mean? You imply that the W3C is some sort of "police" enforcing impractical laws - this couldn't be further from the truth. W3C standards are guidelines that specify agreements between browser vendors and authors, among others; and have been from the very beginning-- without standards like HTTP and HTML the web would not exist at all.

Yes, browser vendors do care about syntax errors as this makes life harder for everyone by introduces parsing ambiguity, which manifests itself as rendering discrepancies and forms the base for silly fanboy arguments against particular browsers.

Remember, it's in everyone's interests to work co-operatively using web standards, not just the goal of some detached, idealistic consortium.

Chosing a server side language is much like choosing a car. What exactly do you need to achieve?

    Websites: PHP
Commmercial/Large Corporate Appliacations: Java, J2EE(JSP/Servlets), .Net
