The best tool is DP. If you follow tips, you have a greater chance of being successful.

I just recently (since reading these forums), realised how important SEO is. I've done a little research and wanted to get cracking.

Is SEO Elite and Seo Book a good start for diving in more?

ebiztrendz.com I think you should start a new thread...
I use most of the tools listed and thankful for the new ones listed...A tool that I would like to share is http://www.google.com/alerts this tool keep me updated with content and any related news regarding some of my keywords..all I do is type in my keyword(s) then have it set for comprehensive (show updates from blogs sites groups etc) and then "as it happens" also when I see my site or blog listed in a "alert" I know that Google has indexed/spidered my site or blogs
Hopefully you will add this tool to your "toolbox"

I use DP's rank checker by Shawn, and 2 FF extensions, SEO for Firefox by SEO Book and Search Status by Craig Raw. The search status tool is pretty useful, I use it for 2 reasons, one it shows the Page rank and alexa data so I can skip using google's toolbar (which is useless since I have FF's search built in anyhow and i like supporting FF. And it a allows me with a couple clicks to look up virtually all information about a site even keyword density..

For keyword suggestions i used to use SEO Book's tool but it doesnt work anymore for me so i've been using Niche Bot Classic. Though there is a new one out there, I dont remember the address off the top of my head.
