Best SEO friendly URL style?

    I'm re-designing my site and I'm trying to use the most SEO friendly URL type. Is the querystring really that bad as far as SEO anymore?

    I would be using a short simple QS, like, www.site.com/pagename.php?pid=456

    I've looked into other methods, such as www.site.com/pagename.php/456

    and the forceType/ EX: www.site.com/pagename/456

    It seems like most use the forceType method, but I never modified an .htaccess file. Any advice as to which is the best method for SEO purposes?

    Any help much appreciated!

    Probably forceType/EX you are referring to.

    But even better would be:

    mysite.com/pagename/pagetitle

    Thanks for the answer zedomax.

    Anyone know how to add this function? Do I just name a text file .htaccess with the contents:

    <Files pagenamehere>
    ForceType application/x-httpd-php
    </Files>

    and place it in the directory of the page?

    Thanks,

    Gil

    i think the 3th example looks good for me.

    if you have an option sitename.com/page-title may be a better solution for you

    There's really nothing wrong with using the first option especially if it's the easiest for you. Sure the others might be slightly more beneficial but I don't think you gain all that much as compared with the first option. In the past it might have been more important but not so much now.

    You can also help yourself out if you use logical names for your values. So for instance
    www.site.com/pagename.php?pid=456

    this could be better server as
    www.site.com/pagename.php?product=tylenol

    This will help you get more keywords in to the URL and certainly tells the search engines more of a story about your site that boring product numbers.

    Third one is the most natural
    Second one is... strange...
    The first one is not recommended.

    domain/category_nam/child_cat_name/page_name (pagename = page title is good!)
