I was wondering what you believe is the best way to deal with SEF (search engine friendly) urls in Joomla. I really enjoy Joomla but the urls drive me up a wall. I am currently using Joomla version 1.0.15 Stable and do not plan on upgrading at this time so please do not suggest this. I am a bit too worried abotu upgrading at this time and my components not working with version 1.5.

Thank you in advance for your input on this matter.

Have you check the joomla extensions/forum section they have ratings for their plugins. There you could get specific feedback on each one.

Well, I would suggest you to upgrade your sites to Joomla 1.5,since Joomla! Core Team is going to stop Joomla 1.0 Support this March and then you will have to pay companies like us a lot to get your problems solved :D

We have alrady started charging 8x from our clients, who still run the older versions :D

And for your SEF questios,I wouls sugest you to go for SH404SEF> Its the best component for SEF URLs..

Try it and you will love it :)
Let me know,if you need anymore help...

    Thanks..

Well then maybe I should look to upgrading to 1.5 now. Better now when I do not have too many components and soforth then later and have to juggle upgrading a lot of components. I wonder if there is an easy way to find out if there are any conflicts before I install.

Personally i prefer JoomSEF over everything else, most of the time people only like the others because they are best for the "free" price tag, JoomSEF ive been using for a couple of years now , before that i was using OpenSEF although i think they have been taken over by someone else now.

You can download the latest free version of JoomSEF from here :

However the free version does show URL's to other sites as adverts which is the only downside of their product. To be fare i would say that the small price tag is worth paying for to get a qaulity product with out the advertising links.

After reading that i suddenly thought id sounds like im a sales man lol, i dont work for them in anyway , just a fan

One more vote for SH404SEF it is the best regardless of price. You can always get it to work and the setting allow you to do things that others only dreamed of. Duplicate names for articles on different urls for one.

ARTIO JOOMSEF is of no good now..
Its generating a whole lot of queries, which makes the site 5x times slower..

So,sh404sef has been ruling now :D

Hello i have my site in Joomla 1.5, and after one month running i changed to the SEF and Mod_rewrite from Joomla. It works fine, but the problem is that Google webmasters Tool started to generate 404 mistakes. Now, after one month i have 9.000 old URLs don´t found for google.

Does any now how can i solve it? Should any other SEF component like JoomSEF or SH404SEF solve the problem?

    Thanks beforehand!
