You can create a similar site or layout by using a cms (wordpress, joomla, drupal, etc.) It's easy to setup and maintain. Some knowledge of web languages would be helpful tho.

not to keen on joomla or drupal

do you think a directory script could be modded?

 

I'm not quite sure but I don't see why it couldn't be modded. I have used joomla to create a few sites and had to do a little customization to the scripts.

 

just get phpbb, with the dp theme your set !
