There's no such thing as "best processor," only "best processor for your budget/needs" and I must say that I would always go for a better balanced system within a budget, based on AMD processor, instead of throwing a lot of cash on Intel, but cutting on memory/video/storage to get it. To those who say i7 processors have low power consumption, I only have to say this: i7 - 130W TDP, AMD X6 - 95W TDP. Say whaaat??? I am no AMD fan because I just love it and I can't stand Intel - for some time now, Intel has the fastest processors on the market but, in most cases, AMD delivers the best bang for your buck. On the other hand, let me say just this: I built my current platform about 3 years and a half ago around a X2 4000+ AMD CPU, 2 GB of fast DDR2 memory and a video card that was at the top of the mid-end range back then, a Radeon X1950 Pro. A friend of mine got a more powerful Intel CPU with a crappy motherboard, slow 533 MHz DDR2 memory and some low-end 8500 GT video card. Guess who got more for his money? Even now I use that platform, but I pushed the CPU to 2.5 GHz, memory runs at ~840 MHz with 4-4-4-11 CR2 timings and the video card is now a HD 4770. I play games at 1280X1024, because that's the native resolution of my monitor. Why would I upgrade? The only reason to upgrade would be to decrease my power consumption, so I would go with a 45W TDP CPU from AMD. If Intel offers me a CPU delivering about the same performance at 25W TDP and not twice the price, I would go with Intel. People, look at those blind Apple or Microsoft/Linux fans and learn one valuable lesson - don't just be the fan of a company, be the fan of your own interests and needs, that's what really matters - anything else is advertising and its effect!!!
i dont know about i7 as i dont have but i have laptop having Intel i5 and i m very much satisfy with my laptop and its processor
It seems like AMD's server branch had a really good year in 2010, as both the Opteron 6100 processors alternation and the Dell Power Edge R815 server, which is based on this CPU family, were crowned for their achievement by two celebrated media publications.
As of now the best price to performance cpu is Intel's Core i7 2600k. Although the new Ivy Bridge platform will be released soon which is said to have new improvements, features, and technology based on SB platform.
