Where would shop for a plasma T.V. if you were going to buy one right now? Please don't post any urls but rather just mention the name of a place like Ebay, Amazon, etc.

Anyone familiar with Gateway TVs? I'm looking at the Helios 50" Plasma Flat Panel HD Ready TV for about $2500. Would you buy from Gateway? All I know about Gateway is that their computer sales were taken over by Dell a long time ago. What about their TV business, is it reputable?

<< Toshiba here. 1 year still bright as first day. Wouldn't trust mail-order for a purchase like this though. My same set @ Best Buy was $300 more than where I brought from local mom and pop store.

Is power consumption anything to consider? Do certain TVs use much more electricity than others?

No need to overspend and let the creditcard companies win and take advantage of you. I have reduced my monthly spend to very little and I never use creditcards. Everything is paid in cash.

Stop letting banks and creditcards take advantage of you.

I thought I heard that prices on LCD TVs will be coming down 30% each year for the next three years. Is that really true? Working the math, does that mean that TVs that sell for a thousand dollars today will sell for $100 in three years?

Maybe it's not certain about the years following, but at least for this year prices seem to be dropping like a rock.

I did some searching and found this quote:

David Naranjo, DisplaySearch consumer electronics market research VP, forecasts prices to decline 17 to 34 percent year-to-year in the 40-inch and 42-inch flat-panel screen size segment in the fourth quarter.

"In the 50-inch [plasma] segment, we are projecting 20 percent to 30 percent year-to-year price declines for Q4 '06," Naranjo says. "In the 60-inch segment, we also expect year-to-year, double-digit percentage price declines in Q4 '06."
