Wondering what the general consensus is-how do you protect your privacy online? Do you prefer using a Virtual Machine or just using a separate proxy for your personal life and your work life?

Purchasing a VPN has been of the best decision for me. I use HideMyAss (Premium), and it really helps protecting my privacy online. Its also very useful if I need something thats only available to some countries local(Netflix,Spotify, Hulu) or even when I need to check some random google rankings :)

One thing that a lot of people don't know that no website can see your MAC address, unless you allow it to run local Java programs. So VPN, clean cookies can offer you a good privacy protection.

I used both VPN and online proxies. For VPN i prefer using cyberghost or hidemyass both stable and fast connection. When I'm at work and lots of application is running I use proxies, the one im using is http://freshproxies.co to bypass some site. Both of them are very useful though Im not familiar with virtual machine. But now a days VPN and proxies is enough. Hope it helps.

It really depends on what you are trying to accomplish. Privacy from who? Using a VPN is probably your best bet.

    robbo1000...I agree.

There are many options so choose carefully. http://www.hideiponline.com has good non biased reviews. Read a bunch of different sites before deciding though.

I use a VPN and/or Tor (using the TorBrowser project). Both are relatively cheap ways to safeguard your privacy.
