Best Practice Question: Multiple Domain names to single site

My buddy and I where talking about best practice if you had a collection of similar domain names, but all index page links filtered back to a single site? How does Google and other search engines treat this? We have no clue - thus the question.

Example. You own voip.com, voiceoverip.com and internetphone.com and customized the text, keywords etc for each individual index page [above domains], and had all the links of each specifc index page point to a single, underlining website (say voip.com was the main site). Does Google and others penalize for this? I would think so....but wanted other opinions.

    My Dear Friend

No it will not ban you. why becuase the thing which you are doing is something similar to linkfarm but not exactly a linkfarm. Your all site will not affect anymore unless you do reciprocal links with each other.

Secondly if you are not doing reciprocal link then only the sites which is providing external link on each and every page of them will loose PR juice only nothing more than that.

Cool Mate and Enjoy your day

It'd be pointless to do so. Just pick one domain name and 301 redirect the other domains to the main one. THEN optimize the main site for the keywords you want to rank well for.

Why work harder than you have to, especially when you can work smart?

    That's a great explanation dan...

301 redirection really is effective in SEO when you have plenty of domains to manage. :D

What you're trying to do is establish your main site as an industry hub. It can work but you're going to have to build all 3 or 4 sites and focus most of the attention on your main site. Most people use more sites - don't link between the websites and you should be fine. IMO
