Best Practice and Planning a URL Name

    What is the difference and how can I implement a URL that reads:

    shop.websitename.com

    vs.

    websitename.com/shop

    the first one is a subdomain. from what i know google treat it as other domain and so gives a different pr for that. my personal choice would be the 2nd one since the shop landing page still stays in the same domain.
