Hi, Iv decided that I'm going to get a better laptop, I might be able to trade this one in to pcworld because I got it from there, if not I would sell it on ebay, I've been using Privacy tools to permanently delete data, I also have been using recovery tools to check and see if my data is still there and have also used file shredding tools using different algorithm techniques such as dod 522m, guttman etc and something with 7 passes. When I first used a recovering tool, it showed over 300,000, lots of information which was all found in the MFT, they could all be readable /recoverable. After using a program called Ccleaner, all the files in MFT were encrypted, this also showed up in the file recoverying software, do you think my data is secure enough now?, I was going to also use this program called, Directory Snoop and purge every file, (i think purging destroys the path to the file, because when I used it, all the files could not be found with file recovery tools) So I was thinking of just Wiping free space with different techniques then purging then wiping then purging, which should make it virtually impossible to recover,
You might also want to try DBAN (Darik's Boot and Nuke), and/or multiple 'multiple passes' with Eraser 5.8.8. Alternatively, if you have a spare $24,000 you might be interested in the Garner PD-8700. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t3SpcVjAAQU www.garner-products.com Or maybe just go to work on your drive with a cheap drill.
