best platform for a student group social network

i need to start a social network site for students,,, should be able to put advertisement for rooms to rent stuff to sale like that as well,,,, what are the best thing to do that?

 

Use buddypress and alter the files to make it suit you.

 

i would just stick to the old fashion way of advertising at the schools,what i use to do was make flyers and post them, it works really well for colleges, you should just try that. its so easy and less time consuming...good luck with this hun
