Best place to hire a web designer for the lowest price

I'm looking for a redesign of my sites. I want something more professional looking, that keeps the same content and will maintain my serps. I've had good luck outsourcing stuff on rentacoder. Do you think that is a good source for finding cheap, quality web designers, or do you know of some other good sources? Thanks!

Which website(s) were you wanting to redo?

I don't know a lot of places to get coding done..but I have made a few things freelance here and there for friends and family...and taken small pay.. PM me if you like.

    Good luck.

I hear that a lot of coders from the subcontinent (India, Pakistan etc.) offer cheap prices due to the lower cost of living in those countries. I am not sure of the quality of their work as I haven't had any first hand experience though. So maybe you could search for web design related to the subcontinent?

I saw some work done by this kind of outsourcing, it's just horrible, the quality of the code was horrendous.

I agree with Sunlust, be careful dealing with Indian and Pakistani designers. They usually do an ok job coding but I've experienced some really bad designers through my time. There can also be a language barrier, they don't always comprehend English that well. This of course is only my experience, I believe there's tons of good coders/designers from Pakistan and India just tread carefully.

You will end up paying for it to be done there first. Then pay again to have it fixed locally.

    Well said.

There are quite a number of web designers who could make a career out of fixing poorly done work.

It really depends on the scale of the site you're having done, Getting a landing page or something done is far different than a full scale website.

The cheapest places to hire a coder are areas like India and parts of Asia. If you are really struggling to find someone, you can also go to freelancer websites where you can post an advert and let the freelancers bid for your project. From here you can just choose the best one..better than doing all the leg work :)

Exactly. Check their portfolios and make sure that they are worth the risk. Most of the freelancer websites offer feedback reviews. Go through all of them and then post the project.

Imo, DP is the best source to find the highest quality work given a lowest budget. :) Try the BST forum, but be sure to look at their portfolio first before considering on hiring anyone. :) You can easily find a qualitative design at around $25 - $30 usd and $25 for the xhtml/css codings

You are probably right Sapphiro, people are less likely to try to scam/do a bad job because of the iTrader system as well.

Why not build your own website? There are so many software out there now which allows small business owners to build a website. Well you need to know some buzz-words such as what is FTP, HTML, Flash, etc, but you can save thousands and also have 100% control of your website.

You can try FrontPage / Dreamweaver if you have some HTML knowledge, can also check out Swish, A4Desk, WebPublisher if you just want to build a website quickly (without any coding, just fill-in-the blank type of editing). Almost all software provide free trial version so it is risk free for you.

Unfortunately also because of this you see a lot of people with no skills bidding for your proyect...
Ive got a lot of bad experiences by getting coders/designers from subcontinent, but I am aware that its to be expected, my last experience was that the coder completely screwed up my design, the coding was shitty to say the least, and he was trying to squeeze more money out of my pocket saying that his work was good and that what I was asking for was no easy task... real thing from the specs out of 10 he only got 1 right, "coding the site in php" everything else was just garbage... We even got to a dispute because he didnt wanted to accept to cancel the escrow lucky me, the sites staff were congruent enough and helped me out...(and all the messages were done in site, so there were lots of proofs to put this dude in place.)

Look if youre interested in hiring subcontinent coders/designers play it safe, dont trust if its a matter of money cause you never know and dont expect a smooth ride, also if you are using a freelance site dont do your messaging via Msn gtalk etc.. use the insite message system, most of the sites wont take that info as proof if you get scammed, learn to sacrifice a little comfort and use the insite message system.
besides of this you will save around 30-50% more than if you hired a coder from developed countries...

When using the freelancer sites or anywhere else, you will often have a bad experience from going with the lowest bid. I have hired a few and when going for the lowest bid and thought I got a great deal. Usually the work sucked or it took waaaay longer that than the original estimate.

I had better luck going with someone that was a little higher in price but got what I wanted quickly. Sometimes you get what you pay for.

I also try to tell them that payment will be made in full at completion of project. If they are competent in what they do, a lot people don't mind that arrangement and it will weed out the flakes.
