Best Place For Adwords Newbie To Start?

    Hey all,

I first tried adwords around 3 months ago. I had NO idea what I was doing. As a result, I pissed off a couple hundred with NO return. I have a feeling that my experience was typical of many. I just wanted to try it, and that is a guarantee of failure without some knowledge.

I want to try again. I am just reading posts in this section every day. I have picked up quite a bit, but I need so much more before I waste any bucks.

I am considering joining PPC Coach's group. I think he knows what he is talking about. I have also read about Wealthy Affiliate.

Besides groups like those, what is the best place for a newbie to start? Are there any "must read" books? Any "must see" sites with free help/ info? Where would you start learning, if you knew nothing about adwords?

Thanks for the help guys and gals.

    :O)

    Hey Raider,

You have probably heard of Perry Marshall?
As far as I can tell, he is 'THE' AdWords guru.
I have 3 great e-books which are all a bit
different. You can buy Perry Marshall's book
on Amazon. Its nice to have a book in your
hands. (PDFs can be annoying - to me at
    least).

Simon Leung is another one I would recommend.

Right now, I am doing Matthew Glanfield's BBO
Traffic series. It is very, very good. We have
had 5 of 9 webinars so far and they have all been
excellent. The one on AdWords was good, and
gave a different idea for getting started.

Maybe Matthew would give you a discount as a
    late starter?

    Regards,

    Richard

A few years ago, I'd have agreed that Perry Marshall was a good place to go, but his books are becoming very outdated, and there are a lot of good guides written by people who've looked at what PM's said, and picked out the stuff that's still true.

    Agree with CustardMite.

Perry Marshall's guides are too old for nowadays.

If you want to learn Adwords in 2008, then I would suggest to read Beating Adwords, Adwords Miracle & Google Money Pro.

BTW CustardMite's guide is very nice, I like it.

i dont think you will get very much out of any ebooks. You will probably learn more on these forums than any other place. Also check the links in my sig, my blog site is dedicated to internet marketing, PPC and I just created some how to videos.

wealthy affiliate is also a good community of people, I recently joined myself. I know PPC probably better than 99% of everyone on this forum, but that community really helps each other out and they also study much more than just PPC marketing

Why do most people here say that Perry Marshal's book is already outdated? What part of it was outdated? Please explain...

Perry Marshall has a free email course, that might give you a couple of useful tips.

Also, his book (the one in the shops, not the ebook) is well worth a read. Adwords for Dummies is also useful.

These 2 books don't cover everything in adwords, but you'll get a lot out of them and they're well worth the price.

    Hope this helps,

    Steve

Totally agree with Steve, although it seems Perry Marshall is now
only one of the AdWords gurus. But, he is still there or there abouts.

The e-mail course is not very obvious on his web-site. You have to
scroll down a bit to get the opt-in. It is a 5 x e-mail course. Obviously,
    pretty basic.

You can get his book from Amazon. Its cheaper than his digital e-book!
I don't think anyone serious about AdWords should be without it.
Unless of course, you don't like a 'real' book!

    Regards,

    RPM

Perry Marshall is a good Primer, but hardly a Guru. Just because he can slap together an ebook with the basic of PPC and maybe 1 or 2 semi advanced techniques does not make him the leader and best guru. His PPC advice is basic at best and doesn't involve any advanced techniques.

I am more of a guru than Perry Marshall, I challenge him to a duel...

sounds like WA has a lot of their online street team working hard for them in this thread.

I blew a few 100 US on Adwords as well and left my account feeling like it is all set up to take your money and give you absolutely no return at all.

I mean, I chose keywords that were directly related to the site and product we were marketing including the name of the site which is completely unique and no one else has this name and still Google wanted $10 per click for that name.

We were selling a product that was retailing for $10 so we would lose our shirts even if we got 1 sale from every click lol.

That was when I gave up.

Rob I am trying to view your tutorials but it is streaming at a very slow rate. You should consider hosting your videos at youtube or some where with higher bandwidth. Cuz I am on a high speed broadband connection.

I dont want to host on youtube cause it distracts visitors and causes a lot of off site clicks. Your the first to complain, so maybe there were just to many people streaming at once...

Let me know if it continues the same.
