I tried Zend and found it annoyingly slow on Windows. PhpED from nusphere seems much better (http://www.nusphere.com)
I like PHP Designer 2006 - it's a lot like VS.NET, which was what I came from previously to PHP. Well worth checking out.
On my 2gig machine Zend Studio works well, Eclipse is java based too, the main thing is do you want to develop with a debugger or spend double or more of your time adding echo statement to fix bugs
Zend Studio is a decent application building IDE - for editing small scripts or doing php page edits, I've found it to be exceptionally bad. Just my opinion. For text editors, I'm a huge ultraedit fan. It's as powerful a text editor as you'll ever need. I use dreamweaver when I just need to plug in some php, but mostly that's a web design application for me - or a content building app for my wife.
Here is a list of IDE's. Tools and everything realted to PHP and moreover its free http://www.hotappz.com/product_info20405.html http://www.hotappz.com/product_info14450.html http://www.hotappz.com/product_info5672.html http://www.hotappz.com/product_info7739.html http://www.hotappz.com/product_info20664.html http://www.hotappz.com/product_info2007.html http://www.hotappz.com/product_info22082.html http://www.hotappz.com/product_info14449.html http://www.hotappz.com/product_info14454.html http://www.hotappz.com/product_info7275.html http://www.hotappz.com/product_info23870.html http://www.hotappz.com/product_info13749.html http://www.hotappz.com/product_info18030.html http://www.hotappz.com/product_info18871.html http://www.hotappz.com/product_info18423.html http://www.hotappz.com/product_info23338.html http://www.hotappz.com/product_info19614.html http://www.hotappz.com/product_info23949.html And yeah I am affiliated with this site. But I am not just spamming this. It really free and all tools are available for download legally. Thanks.
I prefer Dreamweaver since we can do HTML, ASP, Cold Fusion and PHP in this editor itself. So my vote is for Dreamweaver only.
ok i use crimson editor... no debugger though and not more than a (free) text editor with syntax highlightening, but it has syntax highlightening for ASP, basic, C, C++, CSS, Fortran, HTML, Java, JSP, MaTeX, Matlab, Pascal, Perl, PHP, SQL, Python and Tcl/TK...!
If you want to work on large websites or on frameworks like symfony, cake, zend etc you should use PhpED. I found it best at intellisense and debugging. But one think I like about Dreamweaver is it shows design view inside dream waver. If you think you have to play so much with design then Dreamweaver is better. Or you can use both
