Best PHP Books - beginner/mid lvl

    Hello everyone,

Started using PHP a few months back and am wondering if anyone has come across any books that they would recommend for a beginner/mid level programmer (don't consider myself mid-level yet, but could be good reading to push forward).

Anyone have any books that they have either heard of, or have read themselves that they would recommend?

    Thanks in advance!

Wow, thanks for all of the replies!

Have bookmarked all of the sites and plan on digging into them after work today.

Again, thanks all! And if anyone else has any references I'd love to hear those as well - keep 'em comin :)

My issue was that I couldn't just read php.net and understand how to incorporate functions. I needed a real scenario so that I could see the benefits. That's why I highly recommend Kevin Yank's book from Sitepoint. I don't have any affiliation with him. I just know that it was the book that I learned from and liked it.

@PHP Gator - thanks for that. I'm feeling the same thing, in that if I read php.net I wont fully know what to do with everything and get a bit lost, so thanks for giving a reference that helped you start learning it - will check that book out.

@akshat.gl - thanks for your recommendation. I'll have to look that book up -o'Reilly's is generally pretty good so I have no doubt that will be an awesome book.
