free or paid? and do you want to integrate it with forum or not? Currently I'm using photopost vbgallery on my vbulletin forum but if you want standalone gallery, try photopost php pro. Both of not free though
from my experience, you can photopost is customizable and search engine friendly. Here is my old gallery using photopost PHP pro http://www.osx-e.com/photopost/ and here is the current one using photopost vbgallery http://www.osx-e.com/gallery/
I'm using the Simple Gallery script by Celeron Dude (celerondude.com), I've integrated adsense into it with no problems.
take a look at image gallery luna there is a free and and pro version also we can customize things for you if you want
Hands down I'm a fan of Gallery2. I've been a strong supported of Gallery for years now. It's a little bit much if you want something lightweight, but overall it's a great app.
