Best Payment System For Downloadable Software

In a few months I will hopefully be selling a downloadable software product I've been working on for a while now. I still need to find a place to process payments for it.

I was thinking of going the PayPal route, but I was wondering what you guys think before I jump in and start setting up a little PayPal store for it. So, PayPal or not?

I think payloadz, you need to have paypal or some of others. You sell digital products there. After payment made, the buyer will get the download immediately.

Yeah I just checked it out also, looks awesome.

I'm still kinda debating how to do the serial number stuff... almost thinking of either going all out with a custom built system or not using serial numbers (either way, people who are going to pirate will pirate, and people who are honest will buy the software).

Crap, maybe i should just release it as open source, at least then I wouldn't have to worry about piracy and setting up a company and sales tax and this and that... ick! Oh well.

    Thanks for the links.

I would go with e-gold since you are safe for chargebacks. But paypal should be on your list because majority use that payment processor.

Well, piracy will always exists but from my 8 years in the shareware industry, I could say that most people are generally honest and those who use pirated software generally will never pay.

In the end, the level of piracy will depend on who your target audience is. If you target professional and business users then the level of piracy would be lower than if you target kids and hackers.

When selling your software, go with a payment processor which handles credit cards and not try to make the purchase process complicating like using e-gold as you will lose customers. E-gold is known as a platform for scams and cheaters as the customers will have no protection and that does not give them much confidences.
