Wel their are enormous of payment gateway exist in market other than Paypal. such as CCavenue , EBS and Payu gateways are very competitive in this growing phase of market but in terms of payment options then there is no comparison with CCAvenue because they have tied up with almost 95% banks available in India through with the Net Banking option available with 40-45 Banks. However, They are also offering MasterCard, Visa Card, Amex, JCB and Dinner club's Credit card options in that. Furthermore, you will relaxed by the downtime server problem because they are direclty linked with 3 major banks which reduce the effect of downtime .
Hammering the final nail,i want you to have a glance on this link posted by Dhost on his website

This link will help you to understand better. As Dhost is the authorized reseller partner for CCAvenue as well as EBS and Payu one will get more discounts and other benefits available on this product.

There are TONS of payment gateways out there and a whole bunch of them seem to work through Authorize.net. I use iPayment because it was the one that my host (Host Gator) offered an easy set-up for and it's associated with Wells Fargo (I figured I could trust them). However, some quick googling shows that apparently some people aren't always happy with them, so I would encourage you to read up on them before you use em.

You can find a whole slew of gateways on Authorize.net's site: [can't post the link yet cuz I'm too new! Google this: authorize.net reseller directory]

It's important to read the fine print for these to know exactly what you're getting into. They offer different rates and fees (e.g., 1.9% per transaction + $0.30) so of course you'll want to compare those.

Also, I'm not sure how new you are to this exactly. But remember, on a more basic level, if you set up an account with one of these resellers, that only gives you CC processing. You still need some sort of shopping cart on your website, such as Shopify, 3DCart, OS Commerce, Miva Merchant, Magento, etc, which then integrates with your new merchant account from the Authorize.net reseller.

I hate to say it, but for most purposes, Paypal still seems to be the most popular of them.

If you are doing a legal business, I will suggest to go for PayPal OR Google Checkout, both are great! PayPal is more user friendly.

I would suggest CCavenue and Payu and CCAvenue is having maximum payment options and Payu is offering very cheap one time setup fees.

    Hope this helps

@dimitarang: What's wrong with the refund option in Paypal? It works well for me.
