In business, there is always the possibility of chargeback because of stolen credit card or people who are out to scam. However, I have done on-line sales for the last 8 years and I do have my share of chargebacks but they are few and in-between, probably about 1 or 2 a year. In the end, it depends on the type of customers you deal with. The more riskier the group of people, the higher the risk of chargebacks. If you deal with corporate customers then most would not do anything funny.

If SEO means that you need to work intimately with your customers throughout the entire process then you would be able to judge their character. So the risk would be minimize and if you detect something amiss then you have the option to reject their business.

However, whatever it is since SEO business just mean that you do not need to give up some physical product or make you out of pocket then your loss would be mininal, all you waste is time and effort.

Do your due diligence before you deal with your customer, since SEO means that you know their domain names and can do a Whois and also know what the website content is, you can decide to deal with or not to deal with that customer. If it is a suspicious site then you might want to ignore it. If it is some genuine business and the person you deal with is also listed in the whois then it would be fine.

Do not worry too much about chargebacks and suffer too much because of it, because the more you fear the less likely you will get involved in business. Such losses are just part and parcel of doing business.

To avoid possible chargeback you need strong TOS especially for SEO services.
