Hi. I'm planning to open my own website of classifieds, ie yellow pages, and also advertisements, and sell offer coupons. I am also going operate a small section selling memorabilia of my site, or any kind of merchandise with the site brand name. In which category of service does this fall for web development: CMS, CRM, ERP, PHP, Python or ECOMMERCE? I'd like an experienced programmer to provide me feedback. I need to know which is the most scalable open source software for running a classifieds website from all of these. All things sold will be mainly services, not products. Which has the largest support community and extension base available?. Also, which one works very well with payment processors, and can be integrated to mobile devices. The services that I know of by name, but not what purpose they serve are the ones presented next. Your feedback and suggestions on each and how it works or doesn't work for my idea will be highly appreciated! CMS: Joomla, Wordpress, Drupal ERP: OpenERP, OpenBravo, Compiere PHP: PHP, Yii, Custom designs, or Codeigniter CRM: SugarCRM, Vtiger, Salesforce Ecommerce: Magento, OSCommerce, Zencart If I didn't make myself clear, an example can be Magento, but that is for ecommerce, and it is highly scalable and with a huge support community and extension base. I am interested in only a open source service, and then according to your suggestions, I'd research on which one is the fastest growing, most innovative and sustainable service.
Nothing you listed has jack **** to do with web design -- they are content management systems, but do not do ANYTHING in terms of DESIGN! Not that there is such a thing as a "web design application" that's worth a flying purple fish, except for what sits between your ears. "design application" usually ends up meaning halfwit nonsense like dicking around drawing pretty pictures in photoshop with zero concern for accessibility, or vomiting up fat bloated steaming piles of manure using the WYSIWYG part of crapware like Frontpage, Dreamweaver, Web Expression, etc, etc... As to your requirements, I do not suggest sleazing out a website any old way in ANY of the garbage you listed. Sounds more like you need a custom solution to your problem instead of trying to shoe-horn your mens size 11 boot needs into a size 7 ladies slipper.
Hey deathshadow, good day, I am honest with you, I don't know much or probably nothing about web design. What I do know what Is that I am looking for, but I am searching an answer. For example, for people who use magento, you know that magento is open source and has a big user community. I want an open source solution that can be tailored to my needs, and it is innovative enough to not be obsolete for many years to come. Like OScommerce and Zencart have become less popular and more obsolete. Am I making myself clear? I saw the open source cms services at a programming company's website that works on these. On other forums some suggested that use PHP which is dynamic, but I saw some themes of wordpress, and I felt that PHP is looking outdated, or maybe I haven't had the chance to see attractive layouts for PHP. I need your help here my friend. You seem to know a lot. If I use a CMS (Content management system) such as Wordpress, or Drupal, and if I ask a designer that makes wordpress themes to make a theme as per my requirements of the page's layout, will they work fine for the idea I have? Thanks for taking the time to answer my question.
For me the best web design application is Photoshop. Then convert the PSD to a CSS code design and then implement as a template for any of the platforms you are mentioning ( wordpress, joomla etc ). Most scalable open source software for running a classifieds website from all of these - I vote Wordpress.
