What are some niches to build a list in? Im into sports, and martial arts.. I know about the make money online niche but people say its saturated I just don't want to be limited on products to promote to my list in the future.. plus would want to always provide good content with whatever the niche im in.. currently don't have a list yet just wanted to get feedback from this forum.. weight loss is another one but competetive as well. any thoughts/suggestions? Article marketing is not really working out for me.. Yes have made some sales direct linking but looking for consistant sales..

There are lots of big niches to get into. It sounds like you don't want to get into any competitive niches if you are ruling out weight loss, and make money online niches. If you are into sports there are many sports niches you can get into: golf/working out/exercise. These niches are fairly competitive as well though. The "going green" niche is also a huge niche but again it's highly competitive. You can take a look at clickbanks marketplace and see all of the products they have listed in there and you can tell which niches are most competitive by looking at the products gravity in each niche. The gravity represents how many affiliates are currently promoting these products therefore products with high gravity means lots of competition and products with low gravity means less competition. I'm sure you already know that less competitive niches are lucrative because they are "untapped niches" and don't have very much competition in terms of marketing but you are taking a risk by promoting these products because you don't know if they will convert. Other niches include forex trading and internet marketing online....Lots of niches out there it's really difficult to tell which one is best for you...

I suggest you search more for niches that are in demand as of now, I found some great niches in hubpages lately. If you have time, you can do research as well.

People say a LOT of things! It's not always true ... additionally things might change. I'd say there is space for a good and sound business always - people look for someone they can trust. Go for it, go for what you know a lot about and love! May you have great success kb24!

Instead of looking for a specific niche to build a list with, look toward specific demographics. For example; housewives between the age of 25 - 45 would respond to offers from weight loss, make money, family, kids, finance/credit, etc... Just figure out where your demographic hangs out and go after them.

It's always easier to build a business around something you're passionate about. The good thing about sports and martial arts is that they both offer physical products as well as the potential to sell digital products. For example, if you built a basketball site, you could easily sell anything from sneakers to sporting goods to performance supplements. As for digital products, one example is the "Jump Manual," an e-book promising to help people increase their vertical jump for dunking. I'm sure there are digital products built around different martial arts styles too. You could easily create your own products (free and paid) to build your list, or use coupon codes/discounts on equipment, etc..

Choose something you like and find a way to monetize it, rather than hopping on super-saturated niches like MMO and weight loss.

You should build a list, period.

Some people may disagree with me, but I do not think that there are any circumstances where having a list is less beneficial than not having a list. Granted, there are some niches where you may be able to make more front-end sales by sending prospects directly to a sales page. However, in the long run, having a list will bring you more money. A list is an asset and one that every marketers should focus their effort on building.

So my advice is not to look for a niche that is "good for list building", but to look for a niche that is profitable and full of buyers and then build a list in that niche.

Weight loss and Make Money Online are not niches, they are markets. Trying to tackle a huge market will always be too competitive without a foot already in the door. What you need to do is drill down in to the market and find a niche you can market too.

    for example :

    Weight Loss = broad market
weight loss for women = sub market
loose weight to look good in bikini = niche
get sexy legs for the beach/summer/bikini = micro niche

maybe not the best example, but whatever, you get it. You can enter any market if you find an angle. Anyone telling you that an entire market is too difficult to compete is either does not understand what they are talking about, or is trying to keep competition away.

first build your list, find the target audience you attract, then go looking for offers, because you can't force your target audience to click on the highest paying campaigns if it has nothing to do with them

This seems to have need said by a few people in the thread but I will say it again how I see it. This might clarify it for some people.

Target a group of people, that is your niche (not the product).

Start from health, wealth and relationships.

Weight loss comes under health. But you have to think why people want to lose weight? Is it for medical reasons, is it vanity, is it an up and coming event?

For example a lot of women struggle to lose the weight they gained during pregnancy. Target them to get them on your list. You can easily find their hot buttons to get them to sign up for your free report. Or some young girls may be worrying about looking fat in her prom dress.

Once they are on the list it doesn't matter. The products you try to sell them will be the same for everyone who wants to lose weight. You can have a number of different lists (ie. the reasons they joined the list were different) but you can give them the same information and promote the same products to them.
