Ok, take out the philosophical argument about buying links and assume I want to buy text links from a paper. My competitor is buying links and beating me out. I know this is the major factor because onsite wise they basically copied me. They are using a major metropolitan paper that is very expensive. (maybe worth it) but it is their only source. Does anyone have any papers, college or other that they use? Thanks.
newspaper text link? are you talking about an online version of a newspaper? if thats the case, a popular newspaper online version can bring you some traffic. however, you have to keep in mind that a newspaper has all kinda audience and not everyone will be interested in your link and click on it. i have seen one or two of my competitors using this method before but it was not their only source of traffic. how do you know its their only source of traffic? from checking backlinks? and how can you tell they are beating you? if it is in terms of ranking, then i would be surprised if someone ranks high with just putting a text link on a newspaper. unless there is hardly any competition in that niche
Hello sultan. yes I am talking online such as washingtonpost.com. I am not sure if it is their only source of traffic? But it is the only source of backlinks that is showing up for them. and they have 15,000 backlinks from this one paper. So it is fairly significant. So I am looking for some more papers.
15k backlinks form one site? wao... thats a lot. so your competitor is using sitewide link then. i have seen couple of my competitors in the past using sitewide links from online newspapers and getting ranked high in the SE. there has been many discussion about G not crediting for sitewide links. but regardless of what everyone say, i see sitewide link still working in terms of ranking. your competitor in question, what is their position on SE for the given keyword. is it recent ranking we are talking about?
wao? Again, not to get philosphical, I think it is a little ratty, but it works, and yes it is sitewide. Competitor is #1 and I am #2. I have been #1 for years. I know I know 2 is OK. blah, blah. But 1 is better!
if u r at 2, then i don;t think u need to buy sitewide from an expensive newpaper. just find another source with same or one lower PR and get some sitewide links. there is a chance that you can get back to 1 that way. u can figure out how much more you will be making if you were on 1, then decide how much you are willing to pay to get to that position. i have a site that ranked 2 at once and 4 at once. i didn;t see any difference in earning. i in the past used sitewide from http://www.thetoque.com/ but stoped doing that cause i didn't see much value due to lot of outgoing links. at one point they had as much at 35-40 links. but i'm sure there are some good ones with low volume of outging links.
OK, how about a reward? $5.00 each in Paypal to the first 10 who PM me newspapers that will allow sitewide links. not including wash post. UCLA paper, Purdue paper, or Berkely paper.
