Will a link to a blog on the home page signify to Google that the homepage of my site is being updated?

I do not quite understand your question. Did you mean about place feeds to display updated content from your blog to the homepage? I assume your blog has being built separated from your main site and place in subfolder / subdomain.

If yes, I think it will not help your main site to be seen as regular updated by Google. Google will look at the original sources of content - your blog. They will give a credit to blog instead of homepage.

The best way to have Google know your site is updated regularly is to.... update it regularly! If Google notices you have new content being added all the time, it will crawl your site more often. Also, the higher your site's PR, authority, age, etc. can also help it be crawled more often. Try pinging your content when you add it and create an RSS feed and submit it to some big RSS directories.

    Hope this helps.

Well, if you're using Wordpress and its already configured you don't necessarily need to be a web designer.

I'm not sure whether you actually plan to update your site regularly with new content, and if so I don't know where you get your content from but it is possible to add a bunch of content at once and schedule it to be posted automatically, once a week for example. You could have your web designer set that up once and have it post automatically for a set period of time.

If you're not planning on actually updating your site regularly, Google will check back periodically but there is no way to force them to check your site everyday. For popular, frequently updated sites, Google may crawl them several times a day, but for some of my sites that I haven't added content to in a while, for example, only get crawled maybe once every few weeks...

Having a wall will help, which you can update with small events/news etc. You can also add "Lastest News" and links which you will update to your news' posts.

Does your homepage actually gets updated? :)

What CMS is your site using? Wordpress?

If your site content is not updated, then you do not have to do anything to make your site look updated. Such thing will not help.

If your site is build with wordpress, then when you will add more content in your site, the homepage will automatically update.

If you add content in your blog [sub-folder], then simply submit the sitemap to Google. Adding content to your blog will mean that your site is getting updated.

If you happen to use Wordpress, you can use some plugin that can randomly show different posts each time google visits it. But I dont understand why you would want thaat?

Site is not based on a CMS system...but there is a link to my WP blog on the home page...and this should make the site updated in Google's eyes?

Then try adding an auto updating block fetching your recent blog posts on your site homepage, this way your site content will be updated every time you add a new blog post ;)
