Anybody have a recommendation for the best mail server to use for huge email lists? This is on a Linux server.

    Thanks for any feedback,

The server should be least of your worries. You need ISP white listing, SFP, proper DNS and loads more stuff before you can successfully send bulk e-mail without being spamlisted within seconds.

    After that, go Postfix.

Thanks for quick reply. I have my own server that I'm setting up, with it's own IP addresses. Should I still be worried about pre-existing blacklistings?

    What's SFP?
    How does DNS matter?

What other issues should I be concerned about?

Sounds like you have a lot to learn.

It's far too complex to just reply in a post. Google "Sender Framework Policy" and read this link http://forums.phplist.com/viewtopic.php?t=3328 That will improve your delivery rate from 10% to 40%.

It may well be easier and more efficient to outsource it to people like EmailLabs.com who have it all set up correctly already.

I tried sending up to 10K from my own server (from a proper datacentre) but Hotmail, AOL etc. block you immediately so in the end probably only 2K arrived or so.

I now use pure360.com (UK) - when their API is released it will solve all my email needs. I have no desire to admin it all.

I'm hoping to do at least that many, maybe 10K per day and increasing.

Was hotmail and AOL blocking you because of DNS problems or was could it have been message/word content?

How do companies like emaillabs and others handle this issue of DNS, do they have to add each domain that they send out emails for to their DNS?
