In the general case, I'll use a serif font such as Georgia for the larger font sizes used in headers. Due to the difficulty in reading off the screen, I'll go with a sans serif, usually Verdana for text where the size ≤16px/12pt.

The larger ex:em ratios of these font families make the screen renderings easier to read.

    cheers,

I would stay away from serif fonts, times, times roman, etc.

Personally I like most fonts in the sans-serif families. Verdana, Trebuchet, Arial, for smaller or larger styles. They are more readable and don't get as smashed or blocky.
