They are very simliar, the kernel is essentially the same but i believe that centos does not provide official "support". but do through forums and newsgroups, etc.. CentOS has become increasingly popular too.

I'd say CentOS 5. I've heard more good things about it.

I wouldn't say "better" things, Fedora Core is a excellent OS that is officially supported. Not to say that CentOS is bad, quite the contrary, but i think you will be satisified with either choice.

Fedora Core is fine. Meanwhile it's aimed to desktop, and CentOS which is built from RHE is aimed to server environment, we have installed many Fedora Core servers for customers without trouble. However, between the list, I personal choose CentOS. Having both version 4 and version 5 (32-64bits), all they are running great

Redhat ES 5 all the way. It's worth it for the up to date packages and support.

Newest version of CentOS is the best Linux operating system by far.
Fast, secure, stable, and very efficient.

CentOS really rocks compared to other Linux server operating systems..
If you're not going for CentOS, get the next best thing: Ubuntu Server Edition. [Search Google]

Fedora distros basically have 3 months updates and support whereas for Centos, if I remembered correctly it is 2 years. Though Fedora normally incorporate later features than Centos, go for Centos if you want stability, for Fedora if you want the latest.

I'd go for CentOS 5 as the base OS. However, with Linux, the choice of distro doesn't matter as much as the skills and dedication of the person managing the server.
