Hi I have a computer with nothing installed on yet, also I have a static IP linked to subdomain what I need is to install the best Linux distribution that fit web developers .. with apache, PHP and my SQL so please recommend me the best distribution for this and where to download it .. and a manual about how to set it up if available Best regards
the best one (for you) is of course the same one that you are running your production sites on. I would recommend choosing CentOS4.X as being reasonable as a lot of hosts use it.
We use mandriva (mandrake) for both our webservers and our development desktops. As noted above, use the same distribution that's on your webserver. That's why we're running mandriva . The very first host I went with back in 98 or 99 had mandrake installed and I've stuck with it ever since. Mandriva has a nice gui interface and desktop as well so it should make a reasonably good beginner system. If you start to need to install libraries and stuff (and you will) the process to install them is very straightforward. It's one thing I like about mandriva - once a week it's super easy to install security updates, and on an ongoing basis it's super easy to find packages and libraries and install them. That being said, most of the more common linux distributions these days likely have the same features.
if you plan to use it as workstation I would recomand you Ubuntu, if you want it as webserver, I would go with centos.
Actually I prefer RHEL, but since that's not free, I'm choosing the closest clone which it's centos and it's running fine with plesk and cpanel
