For me, I think a laptop: Dell is the best laptop in my opinion.

it's very strong and smart design.

Sony Vaio gets my vote for the top end Laptop and Acer for a good allround workhorse.

I have a Dell but I would go with the Thinkpad for my next laptop. They are solid, durable workhorses if you want to get the job done. And IMHO, they have the coolest temperature on the palm rest (the area you lay your hands down on while typing) and I think many people overlook that. My dell's palm rest get so hot sometimes that it feels like my palm and wrists are frying.

But it seems your mind is made up and you want a Dell. If money is no object like you said, then get a XPS.

Check the LG's, most don't prefer them but i think they are really good in terms of silence and not heating up, but ofc unless you can afford a Vaio.

If U are looking for something of Economy Range, I say Dell Inspiron 1525-sturdy performance.
If U are ready to spend a little more Get Lenovo,

    Dell Inspiron
    Cons
Got the worst speaker ever built
    Heating Problem near Touch pad
    Proz
    Excellent Customer Service.
    Well Built with good features

    Lenovo
    Excellent Speakers with Woofers
    Costly as compared to Dell.
    No Issues in Quality.
Will get Dual Core at the price in which Dell gives u Core2Duo.

If you are looking for a Laptop that will give you high Battery Backup,
    Go for Toshiba - Incomparable.

If you have no price limit then I would suggest go for Sony VAIO :)

No other laptop can beat Sony.
