Instead of an Acer, you can get a Dell Inspiron B130 , 1.7Ghz (Centrino) for 35k... :)

I use Dell Inspiron 6000, but feel Zenith laptops are best Value-For-Money.

What is the USD$ range you are looking to spend? :)
I may be able to do some searching for you, but I will be needing $ ranges if you can provide that.

    :)

I have heard Compaq Pressario is good
cheap in price and performance also not bad.
what is your opinion about that?
my uncle is planning to buy a laptop and has asked for my suggestion
personally i would have gone for IBM but it is a bit high priced for him
    what do you all think?

I have no idea if they are available (or ship them to) India, but I've always had good luck with the Dell Outlet (referb'd I think, they come from customer returns):

    http://outlet.us.dell.com/ARBOnline...line/en/InventorySearch?c=us&cs=22&l=en&s=dfh

    The first one I saw:
P4 3.2ghz, Windows XP Pro, 250GB Hard Drive, 4GB RAM for only $859. Add in shipping, and I assume you have a monitor that you can plug in, and you've got a great box for your money.

Let us know if they are available outside the US :)

Go for Lenovo N100 series laptop.
My firend bought one recently. Here is the config:

    1.86 Ghz. Core Solo Processor
    512MB RAM DDR2
    60 GB HDD
    15.4 Inch Wide WSXGA screen
    DVD Writer
    Inbuilt Camera
    Bluetooth
    Card Reader
    WiiFii (a/b/g)
    6 Cell Battery

He bought it for 45,000 + TAX (We have 4% here, not sure about your area).
And got a Kingston 1GB USB drive free with it along with a SERA Broadband Card.
