Though google adwords tool is best but if you want to check it for yahoo and MSN too then http://www.spacky.com/ and http://tools.seobook.com/keyword-tools/seobook/ also seem to be good options. --Ashish
has anyone heard or used and found success with Keyword Elite? I have been trying to use it but found it a bit complicated...
Google Keyword Tool WordTracker Keyword Discovery A combination of these three would be good enough for keywords research.
It's just a shame that NONE of the tools are that much accurate. To start ALL of them display out of date information, in the order of the 3 - 4 months old numbers. And that happens in all the tools. What bothers me is that most of the times the number of searches is way higher in those tools than in fact the number of queries that keyword receives. If the number was lower that would't bother that much.

I am satisfied with the results that i get from Google Adwords keyword research tool, here you get total number of searches done for a particular keyword and it also show the % of competition for that keywords, which you can even check from a simple search for the keywords in Google.
Google Adwords: Keyword Tool It doesn't show the exact number of searches, only an estimate, but I don't see any other alternative that is better.
I have used almost all the keyword research tools and I can safely say that none of them was perfect. Anyway you can check my list of keyword research tools to get better idea of more KW tools (WT/KD/Google are the only 3 you know...) Though if given a choice, I will go with google adwords tool, I have seen it giving the most accurate results among all.
you have to check and make sure that the marketing tool is actually legitimate, there have been many tricks out there, which falsely send you traffic, I recommend you create a "forum" or community so that all your Traffic has somewhere to go, to ensure that it is not false traffic.
I have wrote a keyword research guide that helps you select the right keywords for your site. I talk about Google's keyword tool, Wordtracker and Keyword Discovery. It will come in handy for those starting out on a new project.
I have used keyword discovery and it is good tool for keyword research. http://www.keyworddiscovery.com/keywords.html
No-one seems to have mentioned two other great keyword research tools. One is your 'those in the know' eg your customers, staff, even friends and family, and the other is competitive analysis. The first group are great if you run a keyword brainstorm. Ask everyone to come up with words they associate with your product, brands, industry sector etc etc. Also check your traffic logs for terms used to find you. Some of them can be quite a surprise and can help you to consider further quality, relevant and useful content and copy for your site, as well as for PPC. Competitive analysis is a great way to find terms you may not have thought of or considered as potential traffic drivers. Index some of your well-known competitiors. Invariably, they have bigger marketing budgets than you and you can plagiarise their search terms for your own use at little or no cost. HTH
If you are looking for free but great tools then i suggest google keyword tool and traffic travis If you are looking for paid and extreme powerfull then i suggest adwords analyzer and keyword elite. I also use wordtracker , spyfu and keyword discovery.
all of the tools are estimation none of them can show accurate info ... so its worthless to compare them I think
I have the KGen (Keyword Gen) addon for firefox... It provides me a complete info for keywords I am trying to use on the site...
