Best internal link format

In trying to design the best internal link structure one thing I haven't seen specifically stated is whether or not /item.html or //www.mysite.com/item.html <-- of course normally including the http is the best format to use for internal links on a site.

I've noticed on our promotional products site google seems to count links with the full path external in the tools. Presumably we want internal links showing as internal links and we're just wondering if the /page is the key.

    Thanks

I always use the full URL as personally practice, I don't think it matters one way or another. This is a very good question.

Okay,we were experimenting with both but it's been so tough to draw any conclusions during the pr update. What we'll try to report back is how google reports them in the tools.

It theory, the crawler would be able to tell the page is part of your site, even if you just use "page.html" instead of the full URL. The crawler would still see it leading to that full URL path... in theory.

Use the full url, it's not much more work.
