I have used at least a dozen hosts throughout the years. GoDaddy was the worst, at least a couple of years ago. Host Gator seems to really understand the issues involved with directories (at least PHPLD directories). See my blog post with my Host Gator host recommendation.

Currently I host with iMountain.com its a clustered solution using hsphere so databases, email etc are on separate dedicated servers which provides excellent speed , they back up all my sites twice a day and have an excellent support team, not to mention great antispam and antivirus system on there email server, even gave me a link on there featured customers page.

Have being with loads of different hosts and used VPS servers to shared hosting and I cannot but recommend iMountain to anyone looking for reliable secure hosting thats also solar powered so its green as well.

You could also take a wander over to webhostingtalk forum and take a look at whats on offer and whats recommended over there.

Moving Hosting is like moving house, its a stressful time, My advice would be to do your homework on your next host before you move and stay clear of the unlimited this that and the other offers.

    I can't argue with that.

One of the things that really bugged me was calling goduddy with a problem. The first thing they would say is the problem was the script. It would not matter that the script had been working just fine for months with no changes to it. Then after escalating it with them a few times you finally get them to admit they made a change to the server but they still did not want to admit the problem is on their end.

I called them a few times on server speed and as always their response would be it is a script issue. But of course that was not the case as when I switched hosts the speed increased exponentially and there were no changes to the script.

Don't agree with that. Price is always an issue but if my site isn't loading for people because the server is oversubscribed or I have hosting problems which aren't resolved quickly by tech support then I'm potentially losing income and definitely losing credibility.

I forgot to mention, its a non profit site, so no worries of loss.

In a case of non profit i feel it can be fine.

I'm using hostgator and server is very stable. I never had a problem about uptime, cpu load or server speed. They have some limitaions but you can solve most of them by submitting a ticket about your problem
